September 2010 Guest: Julie A. Goren, Esq.
Mark your calendar for Tuesday,September 14th at 8:00 p.m. for the next Paralegal Mentor Mastermind Call. My special guest will be attorney, author, educator and speaker, Julie A. Goren, Esq.
Julie A. Goren, a Los Angeles attorney, wrote the first edition of Litigation By The Numbers® back in 1982, a few years after she had become a self-taught legal secretary. Having searched in vain for a book which would have taken the mystery out of California civil litigation and straightened out the steep learning curve, she decided to fill the need herself.
After self-publishing the first edition, Julie attended Loyola Law School, graduating with honors in 1987. She later held associate positions at the law firms of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Buchalter, Nemer, Fields & Younger in Los Angeles. During this period, West Publishing, and then, Matthew Bender, published her book with the title California Litigation By The Numbers: The Court Rules Companion.
Julie regained the publishing rights in 2002, and has since devoted her professional time to: (i) keeping Litigation By The Numbers®-Fourth Edition up to date (January and July every year), (ii) speaking engagements on the topic of calendaring and new rules in California, (iii) co-authoring and publishing the more substantive text, California Civil Litigation and Discovery, (iv) creating and teaching the California Procedures online course at UC Berkeley Extension, (v) conducting in-house training of litigation secretaries in law firms, and writing articles on California civil litigation. Julie is also very involved in reviewing and commenting on Judicial Council rule and form revisions, and has been instrumental in effecting changes. She also teaches a course on keeping track of code, rule, and form changes in California. As a panel member for the Second District Court of Appeal Mediation Program, Julie also manages to squeeze in one or two appellate mediations per year.
The call will be recorded and the recording will be provided to everyone who registers for the call, whether they're actually on the call or not.
NOTE: You can now attend Mastermind Calls either by telephone (in which case you may incur long distance charges if applicable) OR by
